The problem today

Where a made-to-measure business runs out of room

The bench sets the ceiling

A tailor’s own workroom can make only so many garments a month. Once the diary is full, each new customer waits longer or goes elsewhere.

Factories want a run

Plenty of makers quote against a minimum per style. A single suit cut to one person’s measurements does not fit that model.

A maker for every garment

Suits, trousers and shirts often come from different workshops, each with its own order format and its own terms.

A date you cannot stand behind

Without published production times, the delivery date given at the fitting is a guess, and the customer remembers when it slips.

What changes with Caprice

How white label made-to-measure runs with us

Cut to the measurements you took

Each garment is cut to one customer’s measurements. The order records them with the cloth and the garment options, so the workshop makes the piece you sold.

Your label on every piece

Labelling sits in the specification next to the cloth, the construction and the fit. Your customer sees your name, not ours.

Suits, jackets, trousers, shirts

Each order is routed to an Italian workshop in the network that makes that garment type, so tailoring and shirting come through one partner.

Measurements kept for next time

Size Passport keeps a customer’s measurements on record, so a returning customer does not have to be measured again.

Dates built on published figures

Suits, jackets and trousers take 3–4 weeks and shirts 2–3 weeks, counted from confirmed measurements. Courier days from Italy are published too.

Delivered to your shop or your customer

Finished garments are checked before they ship, and the order shows the carrier and the delivery status.

The order goes to a workshop that makes that garment, is produced to those measurements and checked before it ships.

  4. 04

It goes to your shop or straight to your customer, with delivery tracked.

Made-to-measure questions

White label made-to-measure, answered

What does a white label made-to-measure manufacturer do?

It is the production side behind your made-to-measure service. You meet the customer, take the measurements and agree the cloth and the details; the garment is then cut to those measurements, made in Italy and finished under your label rather than ours. We make suits, jackets, trousers and shirts this way. Each order is routed to an Italian workshop in our network that makes that garment type, and the cloth, the making and quality control are coordinated on the same order, so you work with one production partner instead of a different maker for every garment. For a tailor it adds capacity beyond the bench in the shop. For a menswear store or an online made-to-measure service, it is the workroom the business does not have to build. You keep the customer relationship, the fitting and the price you charge.

What measurement information does a made-to-measure order need?

The order carries what the workshop needs to make one person’s garment: the customer, their measurements, the cloth and the garment options you agreed with them. You take the measurements in your shop or at an appointment, and an online service can work from the customer’s own measurements. Anything unclear is settled before the garment is cut, and production lead times count from the moment the measurements and the specification are confirmed. Measurements can also be kept in Size Passport, our web-based measurement record, so a returning customer does not have to be measured again for the next order. If you already work to a house measurement form, send it with your first message; how it is used on your orders is agreed per project.

How long does a made-to-measure suit take to produce?

Suits, jackets, blazers and trousers take 3–4 weeks to produce, and shirts take 2–3 weeks. Bespoke pieces that need fittings take 8–12 weeks. Those weeks count from confirmed measurements and specification, so the date you give a customer starts when their order is complete. Delivery by courier from Italy then adds 2–3 working days within Italy, 3–5 working days to the rest of Europe, the UK and Switzerland included, and 3–5 working days to the USA or Canada. Express is available on request. Before the first order of a new style there is a sample to approve, and its timing is agreed per project, because it depends on the garment and on whether the cloth is in stock or milled to order. The lead-time calculator adds production and courier days up from today’s date.

How does sampling work for a made-to-measure range?

Each house style is sampled before you sell it. The sample is made in the cloth and construction you chose and sent to you to judge fit, finish and detail. You tell us what to change, it is refined, and customer orders are produced once you approve it. The approved sample can then stay in your shop as a fitting sample, so customers see and try the cut before they order, in place of a rail of stocked sizes. The cloth is confirmed during sampling too, chosen from the Italian mills we source from or supplied by you. How many rounds sampling takes, and how long, is agreed per project, because it depends on the garment and on the cloth.

Can I order one made-to-measure garment at a time?

Yes. The minimum order is 1 garment, so a single customer’s suit or shirt is a valid order, and so is a run of several. There is no contract minimum and no obligation to reorder. Unit cost moves with quantity, and the price per piece is quoted before you commit. Two constraints can come from suppliers rather than from us: a cloth milled to order can carry a minimum length set by the mill, which choosing a cloth already in stock avoids, and custom trims such as woven labels can have minimums of their own.
